Seed Growing Secretly and the Mustard Seed
Jesus compares God’s kingdom to seed that grows while the farmer sleeps and rises, and to a mustard seed that begins very small yet grows large enough for birds to shelter under its branches. Both parables emphasize growth that exceeds what the small beginning seems to promise.
Where this fits in the story: Jesus’ ministry can look vulnerable—opposition is rising and the disciples often misunderstand—yet the kingdom does not depend on visible impressiveness. Scripture had already used great-tree imagery for kingdoms and for creatures finding shelter under their rule.
