Moab: Even an Enemy’s Bones Matter to God
Moab’s offense is unusual: it burned the bones of the king of Edom “into lime.” Whatever exact historical event lies behind the oracle—and Scripture does not securely identify it—Amos treats abuse of the dead as morally significant. The LORD’s justice is not reduced to whether the victim was Israelite or politically sympathetic. Even an enemy king’s remains are not beyond the reach of moral accountability. Suggestions that Amos 2:1 describes the incident in 2 Kings 3 are possible but unproved; the texts do not give enough matching detail to identify the events confidently.
