Blood, Life, and Hunting
Where this fits in the story: Genesis 9:4 directly establishes the blood/life prohibition.
Where Scripture takes it next: Acts 15’s abstention from blood provides a strong later canonical question, especially because Leviticus extends the rule to resident aliens.
Evidence boundary: Covering hunted blood with dust is not an inspired symbol of Christ’s burial.
Deuteronomy 12 repeats the prohibition on consuming blood and explicitly says the blood is the life while permitting ordinary slaughter away from the central sanctuary. Together the passages show continuity in the blood-life rationale while Deuteronomy adapts slaughter practice to settled life in the land.
Acts 15 prohibits Gentile believers from things polluted by idols, sexual immorality, strangled meat, and blood. Many interpreters see a strong background in Leviticus 17–18, where resident aliens as well as Israelites are addressed in clustered rules about sacrifice, blood, and sexual conduct. The correspondence is serious but debated because the council never names Leviticus 17–18 as its source.
