David, the Everlasting Covenant, and God's Dwelling
The restored people are placed under “my servant David” as one king and shepherd, receive an everlasting covenant of peace, and are promised God’s sanctuary and dwelling in their midst forever. This tightly joins Davidic Messiah, covenant, holiness, and presence; 2 Corinthians 6:16 and Revelation 21:3 explicitly reuse the dwelling promise in the New Testament’s people-of-God and new-creation horizon.
Coming Savior connection: Ezekiel again promises one Davidic king and shepherd, an everlasting covenant of peace, and God dwelling with His people forever. Luke 1:32–33 announces Jesus as the eternal Davidic ruler, while Revelation 21 brings the dwelling-with-God promise to its new-creation climax through God and the Lamb. The passage therefore gathers several messianic threads—Davidic kingship, one shepherd, covenant peace, holiness, and divine presence—that the New Testament centers in Christ.
