Jesus Calms the Storm
A violent storm threatens the boat while Jesus sleeps. The terrified disciples wake him, and Jesus rebukes the wind and commands the sea to be still. A great calm follows. His question about their fear and lack of faith leads to their own central question: “What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
Where this fits in the story: Israel’s Scriptures repeatedly describe the LORD as ruler over chaotic waters and the one who stills storms. Mark does not insert a quotation formula here, but the narrative invites a biblical reader to hear those divine-authority resonances while the disciples struggle to grasp Jesus’ identity.
