Suffering for Righteousness with a Ready Answer of Hope
Doing good does not guarantee immunity from suffering. Peter says believers are blessed even if they suffer for righteousness, and his wording recalls Isaiah 8: do not fear what others fear; instead sanctify the Lord in your hearts. In that setting believers are to be ready to give an answer for their hope, but the manner matters—meekness, reverence, and a good conscience belong to the apologetic itself. The goal is not to win an argument through aggression but to live and speak so faithfully that slander is exposed as false.
