Isaiah’s Suffering Servant and the Ethiopian Official
Acts 8:26–40 centers on isaiah’s suffering servant and the ethiopian official. An angel sends Philip south toward Gaza, where he meets an Ethiopian court official returning from Jerusalem and reading Isaiah 53. The Spirit directs Philip to the chariot; the official asks whom the prophet describes, Philip begins from that Scripture and preaches Jesus, and the man is baptized before going on his way rejoicing.
The wider biblical story comes into focus here. Isaiah’s suffering servant is explicitly connected to Jesus, while Isaiah 56’s promise to eunuchs and foreigners forms a powerful wider restoration horizon. The scene carries the gospel beyond Samaria toward Africa/Kush and shows Scripture opening into Christ and inclusion.
