A Letter to the Exiles: Build, Seek Peace, and Wait for God
Jeremiah writes to exiles who are tempted by promises of a quick return. He tells them to build houses, plant gardens, raise families, and seek the peace of Babylon because the exile will last. The famous promise of hope comes inside that seventy-year horizon: God has not abandoned His covenant purpose, and when the appointed time comes the people will seek Him and be gathered home.
