The New Jerusalem Name
Revelation 3:7–13 speaks to Philadelphia through the Holy and True One who holds the key of David. The open door, secure pillar, and new-name promises all stress Christ’s sovereign authority to grant access and establish His people permanently in God’s presence. The church with little strength is called simply to hold fast to Christ’s word and name.
Revelation 3:12 layers several identity promises on the conqueror: God’s name, the name of the city of God, New Jerusalem, and Christ’s new name. Revelation later shows the New Jerusalem descending from heaven and God’s name upon His servants. The promise therefore anticipates permanent belonging in the final city and presence of God.
The promised name of the New Jerusalem points forward to the holy city descending from heaven.
The Philadelphia promise develops into Revelation’s detailed vision of the New Jerusalem.
