1 Kings 11:1–10 — Solomon and foreign wives
In 1 Kings 11:1–13, the narrative focuses on solomon’s foreign wives and idolatry. This belongs to the high point and unraveling of Solomon’s reign. Wealth, international fame, worship, royal power, and covenant warning stand side by side until the king’s divided heart exposes why wisdom and prosperity cannot substitute for sustained loyalty to the LORD.
Nehemiah explicitly invokes Solomon as a warning example, saying that even Israel’s uniquely loved and exalted king was made to sin by foreign women. The later text interprets 1 Kings 11 as a covenant lesson about marriages that turn the heart toward other gods.
