Mordecai Second to the King
Esther closes not with the queen but with Mordecai. He is second to Ahasuerus, great among the Jews, accepted by many of his brothers, seeking the welfare of his people and speaking peace to all his seed.
His rise strongly recalls Joseph: a Jewish/Hebrew figure in a foreign court moves from vulnerability to extraordinary authority and uses that position for preservation. Within Esther itself, Mordecai also stands as the positive counterimage to Saul. Saul son of Kish loses royal favor after the Agag episode; Mordecai, a Benjaminite linked with Kish, defeats the Agagite threat and rises in royal honor.
