Calling Haman “the Agagite” strongly recalls Agag king of Amalek and reopens the Saul–Agag conflict of 1 Samuel 15, especially because Mordecai is also marked by Benjaminite/Kish-associated ancestry. The paired signals create a strong canonical echo while stopping short of claiming explicit authorial explanation.

Haman’s Agagite identity participates in the Bible’s developing Amalek conflict, first narrated when Amalek attacks Israel in the wilderness. First Samuel 15 supplies the Agag link, and Esther activates that older enemy tradition in its portrayal of Haman.

Haman’s rage against Mordecai expands into a death decree against the Jews, and the conflict ends with Haman’s house defeated and the appointed day turned against the aggressors. His “Agagite” designation gives the story wider canonical resonance while the book’s own narrative reversal remains the controlling evidence.
