Mordecai Uncovers an Assassination Plot
Mordecai learns that Bigthan and Teresh are plotting against the king. Esther reports the information in Mordecai’s name, the claim is investigated, and the deed is written in the royal chronicles.
The key detail is what does not happen: Mordecai receives no immediate reward. The story deliberately stores this faithful action in a record book and leaves it untouched until the exact night when Haman comes to seek Mordecai’s death. Chapter 6 will turn this apparently forgotten entry into the hinge of the entire plot.
This is one of Esther’s clearest examples of hidden providence. Nothing supernatural is narrated; no voice from heaven explains events. Instead, a true report, an official record, an omitted reward, and later insomnia converge. The theology comes through the narrative architecture.
