Solomon: The Son of Peace Who Will Build the House
David tells Solomon that he wanted to build the temple but had shed much blood and fought many wars. God instead appointed a son whose reign would be marked by rest and peace, and that son would build the house. Solomon is the immediate referent. Yet the combination of Davidic sonship, peace, temple building, and enduring kingdom becomes a strong canonical trajectory toward the greater Son of David. It should not be reduced to a claim that David’s God-commanded wars were all morally sinful.
