Aaron’s Sons and the Work of Atonement
Aaron and his descendants are distinguished for altar ministry, incense, and the work associated with atonement for Israel. The Chronicler thus separates priestly sacrifice from the wider responsibilities of other Levites. This is a major canonical bridge to Hebrews, where repeated Levitical sacrifice and priestly mediation are compared with Jesus’ once-for-all self-offering and enduring priesthood. That later interpretation should be allowed to deepen this passage without erasing what the Aaronic ministry meant in its own setting.
