The Line of Levi, Aaron, and the High Priests
The genealogy turns to Levi and traces the priestly line through Aaron. It moves through generations of high-priestly descent and reaches the exile, linking sanctuary service with Israel’s long national history. The list matters because worship after exile required legitimate priestly identity. In the larger canon, Aaron’s line becomes the historical priesthood against which Hebrews explains the distinct and superior priesthood of Christ; Chronicles itself, however, is preserving the Levitical order, not predicting its abolition.
