The Cleansing of the Temple
2 Chronicles 29:12–19 forms the movement “The Cleansing of the Temple.” The Levites responded faithfully, gathering their brothers and consecrating themselves. They went into the temple of the Lord to purify it, carrying out everything unclean to the Kidron Valley. For sixteen days they cleansed the temple, the altar, and all its furnishings, setting them apart for holy use. They reported to Hezekiah that all the articles had been purified and were ready for service once more. This cleansing illustrates the removal of defilement and restoration of holiness.
