Rehoboam Rejects Wise Counsel
2 Chronicles 10:6–15 forms the movement “Rehoboam Rejects Wise Counsel.” The older advisers urge Rehoboam to serve the people and answer them kindly, but he rejects their counsel and follows the harsher advice of his peers. His answer promises an even heavier yoke. Chronicles interprets the disastrous decision within God's larger judgment on Solomon's house, without excusing Rehoboam's pride.
In the book’s larger argument, The kingdom fractures when Rehoboam rejects servant-like counsel; the divided monarchy exposes the failure of David’s heirs and deepens hope for a righteous king.
