Run with Endurance, Looking to Jesus
The great cloud of witnesses is the testimony assembled in chapter 11, surrounding the congregation with examples of persevering faith. Hebrews calls believers to lay aside encumbrance and sin and run the race set before them with endurance, looking to Jesus, the pioneer and completer of faith. He endured the cross, despised its shame, and is seated at God’s right hand. The athletic image does not invite admiration of heroes from a distance; it urges participation in the same pattern of trusting God through suffering toward promised joy.
