John Eats the Little Scroll and Is Recommissioned
Revelation 10:8–11 commands John to eat the little scroll. It is sweet in his mouth but bitter in his belly, closely recalling Ezekiel’s prophetic commissioning through an eaten scroll. Revelation uses the image to portray prophecy as both delightful because it is God’s word and bitter because its message includes judgment; John must continue prophesying before peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.
