The New Covenant

Jeremiah moves from rebuilding people and land to one of the Bible’s central covenant promises. The coming covenant will not simply repeat the broken Sinai relationship: God will put His law within His people and write it on their hearts, they will know Him, and He will forgive iniquity and remember sin no more. The chapter then grounds restoration in God’s ordered creation and promises Jerusalem’s rebuilding.

Coming Savior connection: Jesus explicitly places His death inside Jeremiah’s new-covenant promise. At the Last Supper He speaks of “the new covenant in my blood,” and Hebrews 8 quotes Jeremiah 31:31–34 at length to explain the covenant established through Christ’s priestly work. The promised inward law, true knowledge of God, and decisive forgiveness therefore become central New Testament categories for what Jesus accomplishes. This is one of the Bible’s clearest Old-to-New covenant fulfillments.
