Gog and the Coalition from the North

Ezekiel introduces Gog of the land of Magog and a coalition identified through ancient peoples such as Meshech, Tubal, Persia, Cush, and Put. The names belong first to Ezekiel’s ancient geographic world; popular attempts to derive Russia, Moscow, or Tobolsk directly from the Hebrew names do not rest on sound etymology.
