Ezekiel 1:4–28
A storm-like theophany approaches from the north, blazing with fire and brightness, and four extraordinary living creatures appear within it. Their composite faces, wings, and coordinated movement communicate heavenly service and mobility; Ezekiel 10 later identifies these creatures as cherubim, so the passage should be read as throne imagery rather than mechanical technology.
Beside each living creature Ezekiel sees intersecting wheels that can move in every direction without turning. The repeated eyes emphasize alertness and the wheels move with the creatures because the same spirit animates the whole vision, portraying the divine throne as living, perceptive, and unhindered in movement.
Above the creatures is an expanse, then a sapphire-like throne, and above it a human-like figure surrounded by fiery radiance and rainbow brightness. Ezekiel carefully speaks in layered comparisons—“likeness,” “appearance,” and “as”—before naming the vision as the appearance of the glory of the LORD; Revelation later reuses this throne-room vocabulary.
