YHWH Is Merciful and Gracious
The LORD executes righteousness, revealed His ways to Moses, is merciful and gracious, removes transgressions, and remembers human frailty. Psalm 103:8 echoes the foundational divine self-description of Exodus 34. James 5:11 uses closely related compassion language, but not in a way that requires a direct quotation claim from this verse. The section’s theological center is God’s covenant character.
Psalm 103 repeats the Exodus 34 confession that YHWH is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in covenant mercy. The wording is close enough to show deliberate reuse of the divine-character formula revealed to Moses after the golden-calf crisis.
