Appointed Son and Priest after Melchizedek’s Order
Christ did not seize priestly glory for himself. Hebrews combines Psalm 2:7 with Psalm 110:4: the one addressed as Son is also declared a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. The writer then describes Jesus’ earthly prayers, tears, suffering, obedience, and completed qualification as the source of eternal salvation for those who obey him. “He learned obedience” does not imply prior disobedience; it describes obedient sonship lived out under the real pressure of suffering. Hebrews’ high-priest Christology joins exalted sonship with costly human obedience rather than choosing one over the other.
