Forgiveness and Resurrection Proclaimed from the Psalms
Acts 13:26–41 centers on forgiveness and resurrection proclaimed from the psalms. Paul announces that the word of salvation is sent to the synagogue hearers and God-fearing Gentiles. Jerusalem’s rulers unknowingly fulfill prophetic voices by condemning Jesus; God raises him. Paul then quotes Psalm 2, Isaiah 55, and Psalm 16 to argue that David’s promises reach the risen Jesus, through whom forgiveness and justification are proclaimed, before closing with Habakkuk’s warning.
The wider biblical story comes into focus here. This sermon is one of Acts’ richest examples of the Old Testament revealed in the risen Christ. David’s son, royal sonship, sure Davidic mercies, incorruption, forgiveness, and resurrection are woven through explicit quotations and apostolic interpretation.
