Crucifixion, the Garments, and Jesus’ Mother
Jesus carries the cross to Golgotha and is crucified under a trilingual title naming him King of the Jews. Soldiers divide his garments but cast lots for the seamless tunic, and John explicitly connects their action to Psalm 22:18. The scene places royal title, humiliation, and righteous-sufferer Scripture together. Jesus then entrusts his mother to the beloved disciple and the disciple to her. Later traditions build large ecclesial or Marian systems from the exchange; those may be discussed as reception history, but the narrative’s explicit action is a dying son providing a new household bond.
