Ezekiel 1:1–3
Ezekiel opens far from Jerusalem among Judean exiles by the Chebar waterway. The dates and setting anchor the visions in the aftermath of Jehoiachin’s deportation: God’s prophet is called in Babylon, showing from the first lines that the LORD’s presence and rule are not confined to the land or temple.
Ezekiel opens among the exiles in the era of Jehoiachin’s captivity, the same deportation horizon narrated in 2 Kings 24. The historical exile becomes the setting in which Ezekiel receives visions of divine glory, judgment, and eventual restoration.
