Jeremiah 52:1–30
Jeremiah’s final chapter retells Jerusalem’s fall in close parallel with 2 Kings 25. Zedekiah is captured and blinded, the temple and city are burned, walls are broken down, and temple vessels and bronze are carried away. The historical appendix anchors the prophetic book’s judgments in the catastrophe they had warned about.
Priests, officials, and military personnel are taken to Riblah and executed, and the chapter records groups deported to Babylon. The numbers differ in presentation from the Kings account and therefore belong to the book’s historical and textual-study layer, but the narrative point is clear: Judah’s institutions and population have undergone the exile Jeremiah announced.
Jeremiah 52 preserves a near-parallel account of Jerusalem’s fall, temple destruction, deportation, and the fate of the royal house, linking the ending of Kings directly with Jeremiah’s prophetic interpretation of exile. The overlap shows the same catastrophe functioning both as historical conclusion and prophetic judgment.
