Josiah Dies after Rejecting Neco’s Warning
2 Chronicles 35:20–27 forms the movement “Josiah Dies after Rejecting Neco’s Warning.” After all this, when Josiah had set the temple in order, Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt marched to fight at Carchemish on the Euphrates. Josiah went out to confront him, but Neco sent messengers saying that he had no quarrel with Judah and that God had ordered him to hurry. Josiah, however, would not turn away but disguised himself and engaged in battle at Megiddo. Archers shot King Josiah, and he told his officers to take him away. He died in Jerusalem and was buried with honor. All Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah, and Jeremiah composed laments for him. This tragic end shows the consequence of disregarding God’s warning, even for a faithful king.
