Scripture also places this passage inside a wider canonical network. Haggai’s much labor with little return closely develops Deuteronomy’s covenant-warning pattern of sowing much while receiving little produce. Haggai’s drought and agricultural failure use the same covenant-discipline world as Deuteronomy’s blasting, mildew, and withheld rain. Haggai names blasting and mildew among the failed harvests, directly recalling the vocabulary and covenant-discipline pattern of Deuteronomy 28.

The key reading question is therefore not simply, “What rule or event appears here?” but, “What does this movement teach Israel about the LORD, covenant loyalty, life in the land, and the consequences of trusting or resisting His word?”
