Babylonian Envoys and the Coming Exile
Hezekiah proudly shows Babylon’s envoys his wealth; Isaiah announces that treasures and descendants will one day be taken to Babylon. Hezekiah’s personal crisis and Judah’s future crisis are placed side by side. The king receives extended life and a sign, but the Babylonian envoys expose pride and open a prophetic view toward the exile that will dominate the book’s final chapters; the closing notice about Hezekiah’s waterworks also connects the narrative to Jerusalem’s archaeology.
