Jotham and the Gathering Storm
Jotham largely does right and builds the temple’s upper gate, while Rezin and Pekah begin pressing Judah. The rapid succession of northern kings makes political collapse visible before Samaria actually falls. Assyria enters the narrative as the dominant imperial threat, deportation begins, and even Judah’s more stable kings are evaluated by the unresolved problem of the high places.
Micah 1:1 dates the prophet’s ministry to the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, directly overlapping the political era narrated in 2 Kings. The prophetic book interprets that same period from inside YHWH’s covenant lawsuit, exposing the theological meaning of the pressures and failures recorded in the historical narrative.
