The House of Ahab Destroyed
Jehu destroys Ahab’s remaining royal house and extends the purge as Elijah’s judgment oracle is fulfilled. Jehu completes the destruction of Ahab’s house and dismantles institutional Baal worship, but the narrator immediately exposes his limit: he keeps the calf worship of Jeroboam and does not walk in the LORD’s law with all his heart. Zeal and wholehearted covenant faithfulness are not the same thing.
Second Kings 10 records the destruction of Ahab’s house after Elijah’s oracle, presenting Jehu as an instrument of announced judgment while also later evaluating Jehu’s own incomplete obedience. Fulfillment of prophecy therefore does not make every motive or later action of the human agent righteous.
