The Death of Jezebel
Jezebel confronts Jehu from the window and dies violently, fulfilling Elijah’s prophecy about her end. Jehu is anointed to execute long-delayed judgment on Ahab’s dynasty. The chapter repeatedly emphasizes fulfillment of earlier prophetic words, yet the wider Jehu story will not allow readers to assume that every motive or later action of the new king is therefore righteous.
Second Kings narrates Jezebel’s death in direct fulfillment of Elijah’s earlier oracle that dogs would eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel. The later account explicitly confirms that the prophetic word did not fail and turns delayed judgment into a major Kings fulfillment pattern.
Revelation’s use of the name “Jezebel” deliberately invokes the notorious queen from Kings as a symbol of idolatrous and morally corrupting influence. The New Testament reuse is literary and canonical; it does not claim the woman in Thyatira is literally the ancient queen.
