The Bronze Altar – Judgment and Atonement at the Entrance
As the instructions for the Tabernacle continued, God turned Moses’ attention to the place where sacrifice would begin—the Bronze Altar. This altar stood outside the sanctuary, in the courtyard, positioned at the very entrance of worship. It was the first object a worshiper would see upon approaching God’s dwelling.
Constructed from acacia wood and overlaid with bronze, the altar was square and hollow, large enough to handle the daily sacrifices of Israel. Bronze, unlike gold or silver, symbolized judgment. Fire would constantly burn upon it, consuming offerings that were made to atone for sin and restore relationship with God.
