Blind Bartimaeus Sees the Son of David
As Jesus leaves Jericho, blind Bartimaeus hears that Jesus of Nazareth is passing and repeatedly cries, “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.” The crowd tries to silence him, but Jesus calls him. Bartimaeus throws aside his garment, comes to Jesus, receives sight, and follows him on the way.
Where this fits in the story: after chapters filled with disciples who have eyes yet struggle to see, a blind beggar perceives Jesus through a royal messianic title. “Son of David” gathers the covenant promise of an enduring Davidic house and the prophetic hope for a righteous king.
