The Chronicler’s Verdict on Saul
Chronicles does something 1 Samuel’s battle narrative does not do in the same place: it summarizes why Saul died. He was unfaithful, did not keep the word of the LORD, consulted a medium, and did not seek the LORD; therefore the kingdom was turned to David. This is inspired interpretation of Saul’s story. The point is not that every battlefield death can be decoded this way, but that Scripture itself gives this specific theological explanation for Saul’s downfall.
