The Inspired Retrospective on David and Uriah
In 1 Kings 15:1–8, the narrative focuses on the reign of abijah in judah. This belongs to the divided-kingdom story. Political fracture becomes religious fracture as rival worship, dynastic violence, prophetic warnings, and repeated royal evaluations show how the northern and southern kingdoms respond to the LORD after Solomon.
First Kings later gives an inspired retrospective that David generally did what was right before YHWH except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite, explicitly singling out the sin narrated in 2 Samuel 11. The later verdict confirms the exceptional gravity of David’s abuse, adultery, and orchestrated killing.
