David Anointed, Shepherd-King, and Ruler in Jerusalem
All Israel gathers to David, recognizes kinship, remembers his earlier leadership, and recalls the LORD’s word that he would shepherd and rule Israel. David is anointed king and captures Jerusalem, which becomes the City of David. This shepherd-king language is one of the strongest royal patterns in Chronicles and develops across the prophets toward the Messiah. The New Testament presents Jesus as David’s Son and the true shepherd-king, but the connection should be called a canonical trajectory rather than pretending 1 Chronicles 11 is a direct prediction of Jesus.
