A Cry in the Night – The Shadow of Judgment and the Mercy to Come
Moses stood before Pharaoh one final time and declared the word of the Lord. “About midnight I will go throughout Egypt. Every firstborn son in Egypt will die...” The weight of God’s warning was direct and devastating. This was no longer Moses speaking on his own behalf—this was the Lord Himself saying, “I will go.”
The consequence was personal. From the palace to the prison, no household would be untouched. There would be loud wailing throughout Egypt, unlike anything the nation had ever experienced. But to those covered by the Lord’s protection, there would be peace. “But among the Israelites not a dog will bark… Then you will know that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.”
