Saul’s Rage and the Slaughter at Nob
Start here: Saul, sitting with his officials, accused them of conspiring with David and Jonathan. When Doeg the Edomite reported that Ahimelek had given David provisions and Goliath’s sword, Saul summoned the priests of Nob. Despite their defense that David was Saul’s faithful servant, Saul ordered their execution. His guards refused to strike the priests, but Doeg carried out the slaughter, killing eighty-five priests and destroying Nob, the city of the priests.
Canonical window: David now lives as an anointed yet suffering fugitive. These chapters trace priestly help, covenant loyalty, moral danger, divine guidance, restraint, and David’s repeated refusal to seize the throne by killing Saul, leaving timing and judgment to God. The connection cards below show the specific Scripture links and how strongly each one is supported. This overview does not turn every similarity into a prophecy or type.
