Tabernacle, Temple, and the God Who Cannot Be Contained
Acts 7:44–53 centers on tabernacle, temple, and the god who cannot be contained. Stephen moves from the wilderness tabernacle to Joshua, David, and Solomon, acknowledging the temple’s place while quoting Isaiah 66: heaven is God’s throne and earth his footstool. He then turns the accusation outward: stiff-necked hearers resist the Holy Spirit, persecute prophets, betray and murder the Righteous One, and fail to keep the law they received.
The wider biblical story comes into focus here. The key contrast is not 'Old Testament bad, church building good' but movable divine presence versus attempts to contain God. Tabernacle, temple, prophetic critique, Spirit, law, and the Righteous One converge in a covenant lawsuit.
