Judges 2:1–3
At Bochim the Angel of the LORD interprets chapter 1 for Israel: God kept his covenant, but the people made forbidden agreements and failed to tear down pagan altars. The remaining nations will therefore become a snare. Israel weeps and sacrifices, but the rest of Judges will show that sorrow alone does not automatically become lasting obedience.
Joshua warns that covenant compromise with the remaining nations will become a snare; Judges immediately narrates the threatened consequence when Israel fails to remove altars and makes arrangements with the inhabitants.
