We Have Heard What God Did for Our Fathers
Psalm 44 begins as communal memory. The sons of Korah recall traditions in which Israel’s ancestors did not secure the land by their own sword; God’s hand, arm, presence, and favor gave victory. The community therefore boasts in God rather than military strength.
The manuscript moved quickly from this to salvation by grace. That is a useful theological analogy, but it is not a direct New Testament interpretation of these verses. The first task is to hear Israel’s confession: covenant history is remembered in order to ground present trust when current events seem to contradict past deliverance.
