The Levitical Cities Among the Tribes
The rest of the chapter maps towns assigned to priestly and Levitical families across Israel. The list parallels the distribution preserved in Joshua and shows that the tribe devoted to sanctuary service was dispersed among the other tribes rather than concentrated in one territorial block. Geography becomes theology: worship and instruction were woven through Israel’s life. Variations between the lists in Joshua and Chronicles deserve textual and historical study rather than being forced into artificial exactness.
