Numbers 18:20–24
Aaron is told he will not receive a normal land allotment among Israel: “I am thy part and thine inheritance.” The verse turns a material limitation into a theological identity—priestly livelihood and vocation are bound to YHWH’s sanctuary.
Israel’s tithe supports the Levites because their inheritance is Tabernacle service. The Levites then present a tenth of what they receive to the priests. Leviticus says the tithe is holy to YHWH; Numbers explains how that holy provision is distributed.
Joshua’s repeated statement that Levi has no territorial inheritance develops Torah’s teaching that the LORD and his holy service are Levi’s portion. Joshua’s repeated statement about Levi therefore preserves the distinctive inheritance pattern established in Torah rather than merely reporting missing territory.
