Jebusites Remain in Jerusalem
Joshua 15 details Judah’s inheritance, Caleb’s possession of Hebron and Debir, and the extensive city lists that define Judah’s territory. The chapter closes by noting the continuing Jebusite presence in Jerusalem.
Joshua says Judah could not drive the Jebusites from Jerusalem, while Judges attributes the continuing failure to Benjamin; together the texts preserve the same unresolved Jebusite presence in the city.
The Jebusite stronghold left unconquered in Joshua’s Jerusalem notice is finally captured by David in 2 Samuel 5, resolving an unfinished conquest thread and turning the city into the City of David.
