The Spirit Comes upon Jephthah; Ammon Is Defeated
The Spirit of the LORD comes upon Jephthah before he makes his famous vow. He crosses Gilead and advances against Ammon, then the LORD gives the Ammonites into his hand. The order matters: the narrative does not portray victory as something Jephthah purchases by bargaining with God.
Hebrews 11:32 explicitly names Jephthah among the examples of faith. Judges 11:29–33 is used here as the representative reader anchor because the Spirit of the LORD comes upon Jephthah and Ammon is defeated; the marker is deliberately kept away from the rash-vow episode that follows.
