Othniel: Spirit-Empowered Deliverance
Othniel, already known from Caleb’s family story, becomes the first judge in the book’s recurring cycle. The Spirit of the LORD comes upon him, he defeats Cushan-rishathaim, and the land rests forty years. The short account establishes a comparatively clean model of Spirit-empowered deliverance before later judges become increasingly complicated.
